Local Immigrant Population*

3000

*Immigrant Population is an estimated sum of the number of naturalized Americans from this country and citizens from this country living in the Seattle Metro Area under any sort of immigration visa.  It does not count the American offspring or descendants of immigrants from this country, which can go back many generations and account for large numbers of people.  1,000 is the default number when we don’t have a better count.

Find Egyptian culture in WA state

Less than half of one percent of foreign-born immigrants in America come from Egypt.  Even fewer have chosen to make their new home in Seattle.  Certainly, the Boeing Company had a hand in bringing Egyptian engineers here before Amazon was even created.  Perfunctory online research does not reveal a well organized Egyptian diaspora locally.  We did not find any mosques or cultural organizations specific to Egypt in Seattle.

Of course, with social media and the internet, it should be relatively easy for newly Egyptians to find some compatriots in the region.  For the faithful, local mosques may be a good way to meet other Egyptians.

There are some local restaurants with Egyptian dishes, often labeled as “Mediterranean” for the sake of simplicity.    Seattle Art Museum maintains a collection of Egyptian art numbering several 100 pieces.  The long and short of it is that if you meet an Egyptian in Seattle, then consider yourself lucky.  Invite them for coffee – they will surely appreciate it.
