Local Immigrant Population*

1000

*Immigrant Population is an estimated sum of the number of naturalized Americans from this country and citizens from this country living in the Seattle Metro Area under any sort of immigration visa.  It does not count the American offspring or descendants of immigrants from this country, which can go back many generations and account for large numbers of people.  1,000 is the default number when we don’t have a better count.

Languages:

Icelandic is the mother tongue of Icelanders. English is taught almost universally as a second language.

Notes:

Iceland’s ties to Seattle have been made closer since the introduction of non-stop flights between Seatac and Reykjavik.  Iceland Air’s advertising probably makes Icelanders in Seattle seem more prominent than their actual numbers.  Remember, Iceland’s entire population (yes, the whole country) is 365,000 people!  So, any day you meet an Icelander in Seattle or anywhere is a lucky day:-)
