Local Immigrant Population*

4000

*Immigrant Population is an estimated sum of the number of naturalized Americans from this country and citizens from this country living in the Seattle Metro Area under any sort of immigration visa.  It does not count the American offspring or descendants of immigrants from this country, which can go back many generations and account for large numbers of people.  1,000 is the default number when we don’t have a better count.

Languages:

Romanian

Notes:

As many as half of Moldovans leave their country for greener pastures and to support their extended families who stay.  Moldova has a rich folk tradition of it own, which it shares with Romanian culture.  Russians heavily influenced the culture and education during the Soviet era.  Moldovan immigration to Seattle is relatively recent and the culture melds with Romanians here.  There are community organizations who serve both nationalities.  A new Moldovan in Seattle should have no trouble finding some compatriots.

There are a few Moldovan Honorary Consuls in the US, but none on the West Coast.  In 2021, one of the reportedly first Moldovan restaurants on the West Coast opened in a hip Seattle neighborhood called Belltown.  Check it out!
