*Immigrant Population is an estimated sum of the number of naturalized Americans from this country and citizens from this country living in the Seattle Metro Area under any sort of immigration visa.  It does not count the American offspring or descendants of immigrants from this country, which can go back many generations and account for large numbers of people.  1,000 is the default number when we don’t have a better count.

Find South African culture in WA state

South Africa has nearly a dozen official languages and at least as many types of cuisine, influenced from all over the world.  It is a major producer of wine, like WA state.  Immigration to America by South Africans is a relatively new phenomenon.  A Facebook group for South Africans in Seattle has over one thousand subscribers.  If you work in local tech or medicine, then you probably have met at least one local South African by now.

A preliminary search online for local cultural or community associations specific to South Africa came up sadly sapless.  Perhaps it should be no surprise, given the diversity of South Africa itself, that a more pronounced, unified cultural presence has not emerged from South Africans in Seattle, which would surely benefit from more South African music, dance, and fashion.   More research is required about South Africans in Seattle for next profile update.
